Meet The MickRooCrew - Celine Galvin!

Introducing CELINE MARY GALVIN…
B.App.Sc(Physio.Hons) B.Sc. MAPA

Celine is a Physiotherapist and Exercise Scientist with post graduate qualifications in Sports Physiotherapy, Acupuncture and Pilates.  Celine has travelled Australia with Netball teams and earlier in her career with NSW Track and Field.

Celine is from Ireland, a recovering Catholic and perhaps soon to be a recovering physio after this wee trip to the USA.  Celine grew up in Naas Co Kildare with a family of 4 brothers and 2 sisters who all live and work in Ireland.  Mum is still alive and kicking.  She has been working as a physiotherapist in Australia for 15 years and is currently in partnership in her private practice My Fizzio in the Sutherland Shire for the past 9 years.  Prior to Australia, Celine has worked and studied in the USA and Ireland – to date the highlight of her career as a Physiotherapist was working at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and no doubt this upcoming Race Across America (RAAM) will be next to it on her career bucket lists.

There is an old saying “education happens when we read the fine print and experience happens when we don’t”, well I can assure you I didn’t read that fine print with this one and no regrets yet!!  When I got that first phone call from Mickey I was nervous and didn’t respond for days, weeks “hey Galvo how would you fancy a wee trip to America in June?” truly didn’t know to if I should cry, vomit or feel privileged to be asked to be a member of his fine crew but I am still crying!!!

I have known Mickey Campbell for 10 years and his wife Sharon (sis), truly they have been my family here in Oz over the years and I have tried to adopt Paddy and Molly on many occasions (joking!).
As a physiotherapist and close friend, I have witnessed many of this Scottish man’s amazing physical accomplishments. Mick has a great knack of turning the impossible into the possible with physiotherapy and defying all medical odds, one of Mickey’s old sayings is “pain is weakness leaving the body” and believe you me  Mickey and pain know each other very well at this stage.  I remember treating him for fractured ribs and a shoulder injury one time in his earlier physical career - we were 2 weeks into his treatment when he told me he would be competing in his first Ironman the following week and he did so against all advice and did an amazing time.  It is hard to have a neutral view of Mickey, a very strong dynamic character, a very generous personality at all levels but he loves pushing his physical and mental boundaries and I can honestly say he pushes those boundaries of others around him too. He makes others feel like they are competing at an equal level to him and he is very humble in his accomplishments and fundraising events to date.

I have no doubt that Mickey will chew this one up and spit it out in 10 days – the  longest, most gruelling, painful cycling event in the world and will have many tales to tell on return.  We, the MicRooCrew, will all celebrate in style with the ShaCrew back home before returning to our real jobs.  I feel privileged be a part of this one with you Mickey and to share this tough adventure with such a brilliant professional and kind crew with the best sense of humour in the world a girl could ask for.

Mickey, remember “muscles will heal, bones will mend but the glory will live on forever!”  Keep the Faith, you have done the hard yards!!!

Slainte

Celine
